Zee Entertainment Names Hema V.R. Chief Channel Officer for Marathi Cluster
Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) has just elevated Hema V.R. to Chief Channel Officer for its Marathi‑language business, consolidating four key properties under a single executive.
In her new role, V.R. will steer Zee Marathi, Marathi ZEE5, Zee Talkies and Zee Yuva, aligning channel strategy, content innovation and market performance across television and digital platforms.
V.R. has been with ZEEL since 2011, when she joined as Brand Head of Zee Marathi. Over the past decade she has held senior positions that span television, digital, content development and regional markets. Prior to ZEEL she spent almost a year with Star India and three years with the print group Dainik Bhaskar.
The appointment brings together Zee Marathi – the first Marathi general‑entertainment channel launched in 1999 and renamed in 2005 – with Marathi ZEE5, the streaming arm that offers original series, films and live sports; Zee Talkies, a 24‑hour Marathi movie channel; and Zee Yuva, a youth‑oriented channel.
According to a LinkedIn post by V.R., the elevation reflects ZEEL’s strategy to align channel strategy, content innovation and market performance under a single P&L owner for the Marathi segment. The move follows the company’s broader effort to strengthen regional content ecosystems and streamline operations across its multi‑platform portfolio.
ZEEL’s Marathi cluster has grown steadily since the launch of Zee Marathi HD in 2016 and the expansion of Marathi content on ZEE5. In 2026 the streaming service announced a slate of new originals and season renewals, including titles such as “Hey Kay Navin” and “Devkhel.” Zee Talkies has positioned itself as Maharashtra’s first dedicated Marathi movie channel, offering a continuous stream of blockbusters and evergreen titles.
V.R.’s experience across the company’s television and digital units is expected to drive cross‑platform synergies. Her background in brand development and regional market strategy aligns with ZEEL’s goal of delivering localized content that resonates with Marathi audiences while leveraging the company’s global distribution network.
The promotion is part of ZEEL’s ongoing restructuring of its regional businesses. By bringing the Marathi properties under a single executive, the company aims to improve operational efficiency, reduce duplication and accelerate content rollout across TV, OTT and other digital channels.
ZEEL’s leadership has previously highlighted the importance of regional content as a growth driver. The company’s portfolio includes 35 channels worldwide and a presence in print, film and mobile content. The Marathi cluster’s performance is monitored through viewership metrics on both linear and on‑demand platforms.
V.R.’s tenure at ZEEL has seen the channel navigate shifts in audience consumption, including the rise of mobile viewing and the integration of AI‑generated titles on ZEE5. Her role as Chief Channel Officer will involve overseeing the channel strategy, content innovation and market performance for the Marathi cluster.
The announcement was made publicly by ZEEL in a company statement. No additional commentary from the company or V.R. has been released beyond the LinkedIn update.
At present, the Marathi cluster continues to operate under the new leadership structure. ZEEL has not indicated any immediate changes to programming schedules or platform offerings.
In summary, ZEEL’s appointment of Hema V.R. as Chief Channel Officer for its Marathi‑language business consolidates four key properties under one executive, aligning with the company’s strategy to streamline regional operations and enhance content delivery across television and digital platforms.
