18 Thai Entertainment Companies Arrive in Manila for Thai Content In The Philippines 2026 to Explore Co-Production Deals

On Thursday, a wave of Thai film and television firms arrived in Manila, marking the start of a three‑day trade mission that could reshape the region’s creative landscape. From August 26 to 28, 2026, 18 companies dispatched by Thailand’s Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) of the Ministry of Commerce will gather in the Philippines’ capital to showcase their catalogues and negotiate co‑production, licensing and distribution agreements.

The event, titled “Thai Content In The Philippines 2026,” is designed to pair Thai producers with Philippine distributors, importers and broadcasters. The initiative follows a clear uptick in Filipino appetite for Thai media, especially boys’ love (BL) dramas such as 2gether: The Series, which starred Bright Vachirawit and Win Metawin and drew a large fan base during the pandemic. Thai shows have also found success on popular streaming platforms that are increasingly mainstream in the Philippines.

DITP Director‑General Sunanta Kangvalkulkij called the Philippines a “high‑potential market” for Thai content, citing the country’s sizable consumer base and dynamic media ecosystem. He framed the mission as part of Thailand’s broader strategy to export entertainment as a form of soft power and trade growth.

The first two days of the trip will involve site visits to Philippine production houses, television networks and distribution companies. Delegates will meet with local executives, tour studios, and discuss potential projects that could be adapted for local audiences or produced jointly for regional distribution. The third day will feature a formal business‑matching session followed by a networking dinner, where Thai and Filipino industry professionals can forge new relationships.

After the dinner, the delegation will have the opportunity to negotiate co‑production agreements, licensing deals and distribution arrangements. The event will conclude with a formal closing dinner, after which the companies will continue to pursue agreements that could bring Thai content to new Philippine markets.

The mission builds on a history of Filipino‑Thai collaborations. In 2012, Thai actor Mario Maurer co‑starred with Filipino actress Erich Gonzales in Suddenly It’s Magic, a romantic film produced by Star Cinema that released in both countries. That project demonstrated the commercial viability of cross‑border productions and set a precedent for the current delegation.

As the delegation moves through Manila, Thai firms will display their latest films, series and related services. Philippine partners will evaluate projects that might resonate with local viewers or serve as co‑productions for wider regional release. The collaboration is expected to strengthen cultural ties, create new employment opportunities and expand the reach of both countries’ entertainment industries.

The delegation’s arrival is a tangible step in Thailand’s push to broaden its content export footprint. By engaging directly with Philippine stakeholders, the 18 companies aim to secure partnerships that could lead to joint productions, distribution agreements and shared marketing initiatives. The outcomes of the three‑day event will determine the next phase of Thai‑Philippine entertainment cooperation.

This initiative fits within a broader ASEAN trend of promoting creative industries abroad. With streaming services eroding traditional broadcast boundaries, cross‑border collaborations have become a key strategy for content producers seeking new audiences. The “Thai Content In The Philippines 2026” program is therefore a timely move that aligns with both Thailand’s export strategy and the Philippines’ growing appetite for international media.

In summary, the 18 Thai companies’ visit to Manila is a focused effort to explore co‑production and distribution opportunities in a market that has shown strong interest in Thai entertainment. The event’s outcomes will shape future collaborations and potentially set a precedent for similar initiatives across the region.
