Britney Spears Shares Instagram Post About Sunroof Incident on LA Freeway Amid Ongoing DUI Case

Britney Spears posted a short video on Instagram on Sunday that shows her popping out of the sunroof of a Mercedes‑Benz G‑Class on the 101 freeway in Los Angeles. The clip, which was first shared by TMZ on Friday, shows the 44‑year‑old singer dancing and waving from the vehicle’s roof while traffic flowed beneath her. In the accompanying caption, Spears wrote, “What people see is two seconds of insanity of me arching me to the lords !!!!! yet the days and hours of my reality !!!!!! Nothing is what it seems.” The post was followed by a second image posted the next day that added a playful note: “Psss I think I need to come out of the roof quite a bit more 🙄😳🤦♀️😂.”

The incident drew immediate attention because it was captured on a busy stretch of U.S. Route 101, one of the most congested freeways in the United States. The G‑Class, a luxury SUV known for its boxy styling and four‑wheel‑drive capability, was the vehicle in which Spears was seen. TMZ’s footage was widely circulated on social media, and the clip has since accumulated thousands of views.

Spears has used Instagram as her primary channel for communication with fans since she stepped back from the public eye in 2019. She deleted her account in November after a memoir by her former husband, Kevin Federline, was published, but she returned weeks later with a post that addressed her “hurt and pain.” The platform has become a venue for the singer to respond to controversies, and the sunroof incident is no exception.

The incident follows a legal event that began in March when Spears was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) in Ventura County. The arrest was confirmed by Variety and the Los Angeles Times, and the California Highway Patrol recorded that she was handcuffed at approximately 9:28 p.m. In April, she was formally charged with DUI. In May, Spears pleaded guilty to a wet reckless charge, a plea that allows a defendant to avoid jail time while serving probation. According to California law, a wet reckless is a reckless driving conviction that involves alcohol, and it carries a maximum jail sentence of 90 days.

The plea deal was significant because it was the first DUI‑related charge Spears had faced. Her blood‑alcohol level at the time of the arrest was low, and no crash or injury was reported. The court’s decision to reduce the charge to wet reckless meant that Spears would not serve jail time, though she would be subject to probation and other conditions.

Spears’ legal history includes a 2008 conservatorship that lasted until 2021, during which she was placed under the control of her family and management. She withdrew from regular concert touring in 2019 to focus on that case and announced a departure from the music industry in 2024. The 2026 sale of her music catalogue for $200 million was reported by the Associated Press.

No statement has yet been issued by Spears’ representatives in response to the Instagram post. The entertainment outlet reached out to her team for comment, but no reply was received.

The incident and the subsequent Instagram post illustrate Spears’ continued presence in the public eye, even as she navigates legal and personal challenges. While the sunroof clip has gone viral, it does not appear to have altered the legal status of her wet reckless plea. Spears remains on probation, and no additional charges have been announced.

In the absence of further statements, the situation remains as it was: Spears has posted a brief Instagram video about a brief moment on a Los Angeles freeway, and she is serving a probationary period following a wet reckless conviction for a March DUI arrest.
