Modiphius Partners With 2K to Launch XCOM: The Miniatures Game - Pre-orders Open July

Modiphius Entertainment has turned the XCOM saga onto the tabletop with a new miniatures wargame, announced today. The title, XCOM: The Miniatures Game, will let fans build squads, craft missions, and wage tactical battles in a setting that echoes the 2012 video‑game reboot.

At its core lies a 180‑page rulebook that adapts the mechanics of Modiphius’ best‑selling Five Parsecs From Home adventure wargame. Players assemble a squad of XCOM operatives, generate missions, engage in tactical combat, research new technologies, build and expand a headquarters, and even play as the alien threat in a player‑versus‑player mode. The book also contains a terrain‑building system and a set of reference cards that streamline gameplay.

Pre‑orders, opening in July 2026, include the printed rulebook, a set of high‑quality resin miniatures, deluxe acrylic tokens, a custom dice set, and an instant PDF of the rulebook. The first wave of miniatures features a six‑member XCOM squad and a variety of alien types that appeared in the original 2012 reboot—Sectoids, Thin Men, Outsiders, Floaters, Chryssalids, and Seekers. An Infection Pods set is also available to give tables a quick “enemy unknown” feel.

Monthly alien encounter sets will be released throughout the war, allowing players to expand their collection and add new challenges. The design team has also incorporated content inspired by popular XCOM expansions, such as advanced tech upgrades, MEC Troopers, and the EXALT faction.

Modiphius, based in Fulham, London, has a track record of licensed tabletop adaptations, including Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and Mass Effect. The partnership with 2K Games, the publisher of the XCOM video‑game reboot, brings the franchise’s established fan base to the tabletop market.

The announcement follows the release of the 2012 video game XCOM: Enemy Unknown, developed by Firaxis and published by 2K. The game revived the 1994 strategy title UFO: Enemy Unknown and spawned several expansions, including XCOM: Enemy Within and XCOM 2. Modiphius’ miniatures line will draw on the visual and narrative style of those games.

The first wave of miniatures also includes a set of Infection Pods, a quick‑start terrain piece that references the iconic XCOM: Enemy Unknown setting. Future releases are expected to add S.H.I.V.s, veteran operatives in popular armor, Mutons (including Berserkers and Elites), Cyberdiscs, Drones, Mechtoids, MEC Troopers, Heavy Floaters, Ethereals, Sectopods, and the EXALT.

With the pre‑order window opening in July, collectors and tabletop gamers can secure the rulebook and initial miniatures set. The game’s release schedule places it alongside other tabletop titles that aim to capture the tactical depth of the XCOM video games.

The partnership between Modiphius and 2K demonstrates a growing trend of video‑game franchises expanding into tabletop formats, offering fans a new way to experience familiar worlds.
