Salman Khan Eyes Two-Part Historical Epic with Farhan Akhtar Amid Busy Shooting Schedule

Salman Khan is reportedly in early talks with actor‑filmmaker Farhan Akhtar to develop a two‑part historical action drama that could become the biggest release of the star’s career.

The discussions are unfolding while Khan is already filming an untitled project with director Vamshi Paidipally and is set to begin work on an action‑comedy with Raj & DK in late 2026.

A report by Pinkvilla cites a source close to the development who said Khan and Akhtar have met regularly over the past month to explore the possibility of a collaboration. The source added that the conversations remain in a preliminary stage and have not yet reached a formal agreement. If the project moves forward, production is expected to start in the summer of 2027 and will be produced by Excel Entertainment, the company founded by Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.

The proposed epic is described as a grand period action drama that will span two films. The storyline is said to revolve around a celebrated figure in Indian history, though the exact subject has not been disclosed. The scale of the production, the involvement of Khan and Akhtar, and the two‑part format have led industry observers to label it one of the most ambitious projects in Khan’s filmography.

Khan’s current slate is already full. He has confirmed that he will begin shooting the untitled Hindi film directed by Vamshi Paidipally in April 2026. The project, which also stars Nayanthara in a leading role, is expected to be a pan‑India action entertainer. In addition, Khan is slated to start filming the Raj & DK action‑comedy in October 2026. The duo’s project is described as a blend of action and humor, centering on a retiring superhero, and is expected to be released in 2027.

A separate collaboration with director Apoorva Lakhia, titled Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace, remains in limbo with no official update on its production timeline.

Farhan Akhtar’s background lends credibility to the proposed epic. He co‑founded Excel Entertainment in 1999 and has directed, produced, and acted in commercially successful films such as Dil Chahta Hai, Don, and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Akhtar’s experience with large‑scale productions and his partnership with Khan could bring a fresh perspective to the historical genre.

Industry analysts note that a two‑part period drama featuring Khan would tap into the growing appetite for epic storytelling in Indian cinema. The project’s potential budget, the star power of Khan, and Akhtar’s track record suggest that the film could compete with international blockbusters in terms of scale and marketing.

At present, the project remains in the discussion phase. No script has been finalized, and no official announcement has been made by either Khan or Akhtar. Production is expected to start in summer 2027 if the parties agree on the terms.

In summary, Salman Khan is exploring a large‑scale historical action drama with Farhan Akhtar while simultaneously working on two other projects slated for 2026 and 2027. The epic, if green‑lit, would be produced by Excel Entertainment and could become one of the most ambitious releases in Khan’s career.
