Sabrina Carpenter Secures 5-Year Restraining Order After Mans Repeated Home-Entry Attempts

Sabrina Carpenter, the 27‑year‑old pop star best known for the Grammy‑nominated single “Espresso,” has secured a permanent restraining order that will keep 31‑year‑old William Applegate at least 100 yards from her Los Angeles home for the next five years. The order, issued by a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge on June 18 2026, also shields Carpenter’s sister Sarah and Sarah’s boyfriend, guitarist George Smith.

Applegate was taken into custody on May 23 after police responded to a call from Carpenter’s residence. He had tried to enter the house that day, and then returned on May 24 and again on May 25. In each instance, security and police intervened. Carpenter’s legal team supplied Ring camera footage that showed Applegate approaching the front door in a “deliberate, calculated and aggressive” manner. That evidence helped secure the temporary restraining order obtained earlier in the month.

The new permanent order expands the limits set by the temporary one. Beyond the 100‑yard distance requirement, Applegate is barred from any communication with Carpenter, Sarah, or George and from possessing firearms. The judge cited evidence that Applegate’s repeated intrusions constituted harassment that caused substantial emotional distress, qualifying the case as a civil harassment restraining order—a California tool for protecting individuals from stalking, intimidation, and related conduct.

During the hearing, Applegate challenged the ruling. He claimed the restraining order was imposed “against Carpenter’s will” by her security team and local authorities, and that he had been part of a classified military program that required proximity to Carpenter. He also alleged that he had known of Carpenter’s presence at the house since April. The judge rejected these arguments, noting that Carpenter’s lawyers had demonstrated a clear pattern of unwanted intrusion.

The case underscores the precautions celebrities take to safeguard their personal safety. While the restraining order is a legal remedy, it also signals the court’s seriousness regarding repeated attempts to breach a private residence. The order will remain in effect for five years, after which it may be reviewed or extended if new evidence emerges.

At present, Applegate faces no additional charges beyond the initial arrest. The order remains in force, and any violation could result in arrest and potential contempt of court proceedings.
