King Street Productions Wraps Mayor of Kingstown Filming in Cumberland, Maryland, Bringing $500,000 Economic Impact

Cumberland, Maryland, just hosted a high‑profile production that left a lasting economic imprint. On June 12, 2026, King Street Productions completed a one‑week shoot of the Paramount+ crime drama Mayor of Kingstown at Canal Place, a historic canal site in the town.

The series follows the McLusky family’s grip on the local prison system, with Oscar‑nominated Jeremy Renner playing the unofficial mediator between guards, inmates, and the town. The show’s gritty tone and authentic setting made Canal Place an ideal backdrop.

According to the Maryland Film Office, the production generated an estimated $500,000 in economic activity during its stay in Allegany County. That figure covers lodging, food, transportation, and local services. Roughly 1,000 hotel rooms were booked for cast and crew traveling from out of state, creating a temporary surge in demand for accommodations.

"We are excited for Cumberland and Allegany County to serve as the backdrop for such a high‑profile project," said Ashli Workman, director of tourism for Allegany County Economic & Community Development. "Productions of this scale bring economic activity to the region as cast and crew fill hotel rooms, dine in local restaurants, rent facilities, utilize local vendors, and support a wide range of services during filming."

Local businesses reported a noticeable uptick in patronage during the shoot. Bella Napoli, a downtown restaurant, noted that the crew ordered 22 pizzas one evening and that several actors dined the next night. Owner Levi Lutz said, "We didn’t know they were part of the production until an article came out in the Cumberland Times News—everyone was very kind and professional. We hope the cast and crew enjoyed their time in our great city and that we can get more productions to film in Cumberland."

The Maryland Film Office also reported that King Street Productions created approximately 380 jobs for Maryland residents while filming in Allegany County. Those jobs included members of SAG‑AFTRA, IATSE Local 487, and Teamsters Local 355, indicating a mix of union and non‑union labor that supported the production.

King Street Productions, a Texas‑based company that has produced several Paramount+ scripted series, chose Canal Place for its authentic small‑town atmosphere. The location’s historic canal and surrounding buildings provided a realistic backdrop for the show’s themes of power and control.

Mayor of Kingstown premiered on Paramount+ on November 14, 2021, and has since been renewed for multiple seasons. The series is co‑created by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon and has been praised for its gritty portrayal of the American prison industry. The upcoming season is scheduled to premiere later this year, adding to the series’ growing viewership on the streaming platform.

The production’s presence in Cumberland illustrates the broader trend of streaming services investing in on‑location shoots to enhance authenticity. By bringing high‑profile projects to smaller markets, productions can stimulate local economies and create temporary employment opportunities.

As the new season prepares for release, the film’s production footprint in Cumberland remains a case study in how regional economies can benefit from the entertainment industry’s demand for diverse filming locations. The Maryland Film Office continues to monitor the long‑term impact of the production on Allegany County, while local officials anticipate future projects that may follow the success of Mayor of Kingstown.
